Time magazine declares the Nintendo Switch the gadget of the year, according to a recent countdown from their website. Time magazine adds:
That “play anywhere, anytime” approach, combined with a stellar games roster, from the recently launched Super Mario Odyssey to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, makes the Switch a true knockout.
The Nintendo Switch beats the Apple’s iPhone X, and also the Xbox One X, for the coveted annual title. Launching in March of this year, the Nintendo Switch has revolutionized the gaming scene for its hybrid portable-home console nature. Not only it allowed couch gaming via its dock, but also gaming on-the-go due to its portable form factor.
A Different GOTY
Not only that the Switch is Gadget of the Year, it also hosts two Game of the Year contenders. In its debut year, it launched Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. Both currently compete for The Game Awards 2017’s ultimate award. The Nintendo Switch has been the top-selling console for the months of September and October, and shows no signs of stopping.
The Switch became so successful, Nintendo adjusted their first fiscal year sales to 14.7 million, roughly a million past its predecessor’s (Wii U) total lifetime sales.
